    Vicky Jannise Sets SFA Record in Steeplechase

    COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin men's and women's track and field team concluded the Texas A&M Multis and Relays meet Saturday led by the distance squad. SFA dominated the steeplechase as senior Vicky Jannise won the women's steeplechase with a school-record time of 11:31.92. Classmate Mike Thompson followed suit in the men's race, posting a time of 9:09.65 for the individual title. Thompson outpaced teammates Daniel Williams (9:45.15) and Eric Brill (9:54.11) who finished second and third, respectively.

    The Lumberjacks also had a strong outing from freshman Wade Whittington who recorded an NCAA Regional mark in the javelin with his throw of 178-0.00. Senior DeVaughn Retting finished second in the triple jump with his mark of 48-4.00. Freshman Alex Harris recorded a fifth-place finish in the 100-meter dash with his time of 10.86. Harris bjust missed winning the 200-meter dash by 15-hundreths of a second, with his time of 21.77.

    Senior Jennifer Schreiner recorded a third-place finish in the pole vault, clearing a height of 11-9.75. Freshman Ashley Monteau continues to have an impressive rookie season. Monteau recorded a fourth-place finish in the 1,500-meter run, crossing the finish line with her time of 4:44.76. Junior Jocelyn Stevens (14.21) outpaced freshman Leah Matthews by 17-hundreths of a second to finish second in the 100-meter hurdles. Stevens came right back to win the 400-meter hurdles with time of 1:01.51. Sophomore Stevina Wyatt (1:06.10) finished third in the 400-meter hurdles. Junior Melody Tillman recorded a third-place finish in the 400-meter dash with her time of 58.53.

    SFA returns to action Friday when they travel to Houston for the Rice Bayou Classic. -SFA-
