SFA Track & Field Finishes Strong at Rice

HOUSTON, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin men's and women's track and field team wrapped up the final day of competition at the Rice Bayou Invitational Saturday in Houston, Texas. SFA received a strong outing from its sprinters and hurdlers.
The Lumberjack sprinters led the way Saturday as SFA placed three athletes in the top five of the men's 200-meter dash. Johnny Thacker led the trio by finishing third with a time of 21.86. Junior Stephon Rhea finished fourth only eight-hundredths of a second behind Thacker. Freshman Terry Rowe finished fifth overall when he crossed the finish line with a time of 22.32. Rowe also posted a seventh-place finish in the 400-meter dash (49.49).
The SFA hurdlers followed the lead of the sprints' squad. Junior Zach Ross finished fifth in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.82. Freshman Travis Beavers finished second in the 400-meter hurdles (53.95), while sophomore Mark Evans finished third with time of 54.29. SFA closed out its success in the sprints by finishing second in the 4 x 100-meter relay with a time of 41.30.
SFA also posted several other top-10 performances on the afternoon. Junior Cole Hollingsworth provided SFA with a strong performance in the 800 meters (1:55.57) to finish eighth overall. Silent-Joy Egboba-Waye also posted an eighth-place finish in the women's 100-meter hurdles, crossing the line with a time of 15.14. Junior Justin Reyes finished seventh in the men's high jump (6-6.75), while senior Kenneth McKinley and redshirt freshman Matt Langdon posted top-10 finishes in the discus. McKinley was sixth with a throw of 160-5, and Langdon was eighth with a mark of 154-8.
SFA returns to action Wednesday, April 4th, when they travel to Austin, Texas to compete in the Texas Relays. The meet will run through Saturday, April 7th.
