SFA Records Six Top-Five Finishes on Day One

HOUSTON, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin men and women's track and field team continued its trek through the outdoor season Friday as they opened the Rice Bayou Invitational. SFA recorded a strong opening day recording six top-five performances. Senior Ana Rodriguez finished second overall in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:35.30. Sophomore Sarah Emerson also recorded a runner-up finish, as she improved upon her NCAA regional qualifying mark in the javelin with a throw of 157-06. Sophomore Katrina Nicholas was fifth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with her time of 11:28.60. The Lumberjacks were led by junior Daniel Williams on the first day of competition. Williams finished third in the steeplechase recording a time of 9:33.74. Freshman Robert Smith was fifth in the 1,500 meters crossing the finish line with a time of 3:58.96. Sophomore Wade Whittington was also fifth in the javelin, recording a throw of 171-04. SFA returns to action Saturday to wrap up competition in the Rice Bayou Classic. Competition will begin at 9:30 a.m., with the women's hammer throw. -SFA- |
