    Adeniran Wins Long Jump at Rice Twilight

    HOUSTON, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin men and women's track and field team traveled to Houston, Texas Thursday to compete in the Rice Twilight meet. SFA walked away with an individual title and several top-five finishes. Junior Sumbo Adeniran won the men's long jump with a mark of 23-7.50.

    Junior Zach Ross and senior Darwin Johnson just missed individual titles in the 400-meter hurdles and the hammer throw, respectively. Ross crossed the finish line second with a time of 52.95 in the 400-meter hurdles, while Johnson recorded a throw of 172-5, in the hammer to finish second and just miss the school record.

    Other SFA athletes that recorded strong finishes at Rice included senior LaKoa McKeever in the 800 meters. She finished fourth overall with a time of 2:14.04. Freshman Kaitlyn Andrews finished fourth in the shot put with a throw of 47-3.00, and finished sixth in the discus with her mark of 140-10. Senior LaQuisha Houston finished third in the hammer with a throw of 156-5, while recording a seventh-place finish in the discus (140-10).

    On the men's side Johnny Thacker recorded a fifth-place finish in the 100-meter dash with his time of 10.97. Senior Chance Edwards also recorded a fifth-place finish in the 800-meter run with his time of 1:54.29. Seniors Kenneth McKinley and James Williams recorded top-five finishes in the shot put. McKinley was third with a throw of 56-00.00, while Williams finished fifth (51-10.00).

    SFA returns to action Friday May 4 when it returns home to host the SLC Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The championship meet will run through Sunday.
