Ross, Rhea Record NCAA Regionals Mark

May 3, 2008

HOUSTON, Texas - Senior Zach Ross recorded one of the better performances for the Stephen F. Austin track and field team Saturday posting an NCAA regional time of 13.97 in the 110-meter hurdles at the Tom Tellez Invitational in Houston. Ross' time was good enough to finish third overall.

What started early during the indoor season for sophomore Frednisha Marshall has continued well into the outdoor season. Marshall brought home another individual title with her throw of 158-10 in the women's hammer throw. In the men's hammer throw, sophomore Matt Langdon just missed breaking his own school record. Langdon finished third in the event with a throw of 180-9, just missing the record by four inches. Langdon returned to the field to record a seventh-place finish in the discus. Langdon recorded a throw 164-0 in the event. Sophomore Aaron Harlan finished 10th in the discus with a throw 150-0.

The Ladyjacks also placed three in the top 10 of the high jump. Senior Audrey Azu finished second overall, and was the top collegiate finisher with her mark of 5-7.00. Freshman Ebbonye Johnson was sixth overall after clearing a height of 5-5.00. Senior Meghan Denman also snuck in the top 10 finishing ninth overall (5-3.00).

The `Jacks' 4x100-meter relay team finished fourth overall clocking a time 41.55. SFA also placed two in the top 10 of the men's 100-meter dash. Freshman Ty Thomas finished ninth overall with a time of 10.62. Thomas' time was only a hundredth of a second ahead of teammate Stephon Rhea who finished 10th overall. Rhea returned to track and posted a regional mark in the men's 200 meters. Rhea crossed the line 10th overall with a time of 21.32.

Other SFA athletes that had strong outings Saturday include freshman Shabranttny Jolly who finished fourth in the women's 800 meters. Jolly crossed the finish line with a time of 2:26.39. Sophomore Silent-Joye Egboba-Waye recorded a ninth-place finish in the women's 100-meter hurdles. She crossed the finish line with a time of 14.12. Senior Justin Reyes cleared a height of 6-8.75 to finish tied for third in the high jump. Senior Sumbo Adeniran tacked on a top-five finish in the long jump with his mark of 23-11.00.

SFA returns to action when they travel to Huntsville, Texas, to compete in the Southland Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The three-day meet will conclude Sunday.
