SFA Track Competes in Final Meet Before SLCs

HUNTSVILLE, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin men and women's track and field team competed in its last tune-up Thursday before the Southland Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships. SFA recorded five NCAA Regional marks and five individual titles at the Sam Houston State Tune-Up meet. Junior Jocelyn Stevens led the Ladyjacks as she recorded an NCAA Regional standard in the 400-meter hurdles and the high jump (5-8.00). Stevens won the 400-meter individual title with her time of 1:00.65. Senior Jennifer Schreiner improved her NCAA Regional mark in the pole vault, clearing a height of 12-10.00 to finish second in the event. Senior Blake Gordon was the Ladyjacks other regional qualifier with her throw of 155-02 in the discus. Gordon's throw was good enough for a first-place finish. Seniors Paul Todd and DeVaughn Rettig led the Lumberjacks. Todd won the high jump with his NCAA Regional qualifying jump of 6-10.75, to finish first in the event. Rettig took first place in the long jump (24-00.25) and triple jump (47-10.50). Sophomore Kenneth McKinley won the shot put with his throw of 52-2.00. SFA returns to action Saturday May 15th, when they travel to San Marcos, Texas, to compete in the SLC Outdoor Championships. The meet is a three-day event that will run through Monday. -SFA- |
