Ladyjacks In Lead After First Day Of SLC Outdoor Championships

SAN MARCOS, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin women's track and field team built a four-point lead after the first day of the Southland Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships, while the men stand in fourth place after just three completed events.
The Ladyjacks picked up 20 points on the day and currently hold a narrow lead over both Texas State and Northwestern State, while on the men's side McNeese State cashed in on the field events and the 10,000-meters to total 49 points, while the Lumberjacks picked up eight points themselves on the day.
Junior Lauren Smith pulled off a minor upset in the women's 10,000-meter run Friday, which may pay huge dividends in a very talented women's field. Entering the meet smith was ranked second overall in the event but she recorded a time of 36:13.32 to win the race and post the Ladyjacks' first individual title of the meet.
The Lumberjacks scored seven points in the men's 10,000 meters placing two in the top eight. Senior Dennis Yeatts recorded a time of 31:44.53 to place fifth, just ahead of teammate Nick Guerra (31:52.16).
Freshman Madison Johnston posted Ladyjacks' second all-conference performance of the day finishing third in the javelin with a throw of 141-3. Senior Megan Harlan tacked on a fifth-place finish in the event with her throw of 136-2.
Sophomore Clint Harris tacked on another point for SFA in the hammer throw finishing eighth with a throw of 167-5.
Competition will continue from San Marcos on Saturday.
