    HUNTSVILLE, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin men and women's track and field team finished off the first day of competition Friday night at the Southland Conference Outdoor Championships in Huntsville, Texas. The Ladyjacks scored 31 points and are in first after first day of competition, while the Lumberjacks rallied late to score 21 points to finished the day in second place, only a point back of the leaders.

    The SFA women dominated the 10,000 meters as senior Ana Rodriguez won the event with a time of 39:16.31. Rodriguez's closest competition came from teammate Ashley Monteau who finished second with a time of 39:18.71. Senior Emily Hufstedler finished seventh in the event to also score for the Ladyjacks. Hufstedler crossed the finish line with a time of 40:06.42. A couple of Stephenville, Texas natives led the Ladyjacks in the throws as sophomore Markeisha Edwards finished fourth in the hammer with a throw of 149-1. Junior Colleen Lonergan also scored for the Ladyjacks, finishing eighth in the event with a throw of 139-9. Sophomore Sarah Emerson just missed All-SLC honors in the javelin as she finished fourth with a throw of 143-6.

    Two Lumberjacks earned all-conference honors in the 10,000 meters, and four `Jacks scored in the event led by junior Marc Farris. Farris finished second overall (32:05.16), just ahead of teammate Julian Acuna who crossed the finish line with a time of 32:09.82. Freshman Gerardo Moreno finished seventh overall with a time of 32:48.36. Senior Matt Albertson was the final runner to score in the event as he crossed the line eighth with a time of 33:01.18. The Lumberjacks throwers were led by sophomore Darwin Johnson Friday as he finished fifth in the hammer throw with a mark of 156-8.

    SFA returns to action Saturday with the field events getting under way at 1 p.m., with the men's long jump. The track events will begin at 5 p.m., with the women's 1,500-meter run.
