SFA Track & Field Advances Two Athletes to Semifinals

AUSTIN, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin men's and women's track and field team competed in the second day of the opening rounds of the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships Friday afternoon. Two athletes, both hurdlers, kept their dream of advancing to the NCAA Championships alive.
Sophomore Nick McCloud ran a strong heat in the men's 110-meter hurdles. He clocked a time of 13.90 to finish sixth overall, and advance to Saturday's semifinal race. Senior Silent-Joy Egboba-Waye followed with an equally impressive performance in the women's 100-meter hurdles. Egboba-Waye finished 12th overall with a time of 13.63 to move on to Saturday's semifinal race.
McCloud returned to the track in the men's 200-meter dash but was unable to advance. He clocked a time of 22.19, but finished 44th overall. Junior Arteria Sterns competed in the women's 200 meters. She finished 42nd overall with a time of 24.81. Sophomore Adam Saloom was the lone Lumberjack distance runner to compete Friday finishing 45th overall with a time of 9:22.60.
Two Lumberjacks competed in the men's hammer throw preliminaries. Senior Matt Langdon was 28th overall with a throw of 188-2. Langdon just beat out teammate Jon Arthur who recorded a mark of 187-11. The women's long jump was the lone event that was not completed by press time.
SFA will close out the opening rounds of the 2010 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships Saturday. The meet will begin with the preliminaries of the men's discus. The track events will begin with the men's 400-meter relay.
