SFA Completes First Day at Regional Meet

LINCOLN, Neb. - The Stephen F. Austin men's and women's track and field team opened the first day of competition at the NCAA Midwest Regional Championships Friday at Ed Weir Stadium in Lincoln, Neb. The Lumberjacks were paced by senior Zach Ross who was one of several SFA athletes to compete in multiple events Friday. Ross clocked a time of 14.17 to finish eighth in the 110-meter hurdles. Ross' time was good to earn him a spot in Saturday's final. Ross also competed in the 400-meter hurdles crossing the finish line 12th overall with a time of 52.22. Sophomore Aaron Harlan also competed in the 110-meter hurdles. Harlan, an NCAA provisional qualifier in the decathlon, placed 16th overall in the event (14.65). Senior Stephon Rhea got things started for the Lumberjacks in the 100-meter dash. Rhea clocked a time of 10.68 to place 18th in the event. Rhea also competed in the men's 200 meters, recording a time of 21.28 to finish 17th overall. Freshman Arteria Sterns competed in both the 100 and 200-meter events Friday. Sterns recorded a time of 11.97 to finish 21st overall in the 110 meters. She clocked a time of 24.86 to finish 21st in the 200 meters. Senior Katrina Roundtree took to the track in the women's 400-meter dash. Roundtree clocked a time of 55.54 to finish 15th overall. Sophomore Silent-Joy Egboba-Waye competed in two events for the Ladyjacks on the opening day of competition. Egboba-Waye posted a time of 13.90 just missing a school record in the 100-meter hurdles. She also competed in the women's long jump alongside teammate Leah Matthews. Egboba-Way recorded a jump of 18-4.25 to finish 28th overall, while Matthews posted a mark of 18-3.00 (30th). Sophomore Frednisha Marshall recorded a throw of 170-9 to finish 12th in the women's hammer throw. SFA will return to action Saturday to close out the NCAA Midwest Regional Championships. The competition will begin at 1 p.m. with the women's high jump, long jump and javelin throw, and the men's hammer throw. -SFA-
