June 6, 2013
The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks' 4x400-meter relay team of Torin Crowder, Shawn Goff, Josh Taylor and Cass Brown-Stewart earned third-team All-America honors Thursday night at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Ore. It is the third All-America honor for the SFA men's and women's track and field team in the past 24 hours.
"We're really proud of all our guys this season," said 2013 Southland Conference Men's and Women's Coach of the Year. "Our 1,600-meter relay ran well and did some really good things today. We couldn't be happier for these young men.
"When you get to this level there can't be any mistakes, no matter how minimal they might be. These are the top 24 teams in the nation, and there is no margin for error. Three All-America honors in two days - I'm very proud of this team," added Olson.
The 'Jacks clocked a time of 3:09.84 (3:09.838) to edge out Princeton. SFA's youthful relay squad also outkicked Notre Dame and George Mason to the finish line. All four members of the relay, and the alternate have at least one more year of eligibility remaining at SFA.
Brown-Stewart returns to action Friday evening in the finals of the men's 400-meter dash. The race is slated to begin at 6:05 (8:05 p.m.) Nacogdoches time.
