SFA Throwers Receive SLC Honor

March 3, 2008

FRISCO, Texas - Stephen F. Austin sophomore throwers Frednisha Marshall and Matt Langdon were named Southland Conference Outstanding Field Performers at the 2008 SLC Indoor Track and Field Championships announced league officials Monday afternoon.

A three-time SLC Athlete of the Week, Marshall dominated the women's weight throw throughout the season, and nothing changed during the indoor championships. Marshall won the event with a school, and conference record throw of 63-11.50. The throw was also an NCAA provisional qualifying mark.

Marshall wasn't just limited to the weight throw. She returned to the field the following day to record an all-conference finish in the shot put. She recorded a toss of 48-3.50 to finish second in the event.

Langdon completed an SFA sweep of the weight throw when he brought home the title on the men's side, but he won the event in more of a dramatic fashion. Langdon, who was in second place heading into his final throw, stepped into the circle and closed out the competition by recording a toss of 62-2.25 for the individual title.

SFA finished the meet taking second place on both the men's and women's side. SFA recorded 20 All-Southland Conference performances, won four individual titles, set three SLC records, one school record and recorded an NCAA provisional mark.
