SFA Track & Field Returns to Competition
March 11, 2005
The Stephen F. Austin men and women's track and field team opens the 2005 outdoor season, fresh off its sweep of the 2005 Southland Conference Indoor Titles. SFA will travel to Huntsville, Texas to compete in the York Relays. The meet is hosted by Sam Houston State, and will begin with the women's hammer at 11 a.m. The track events get under way at 4 p.m., with the women's 4X100-meter relay.
Last Time Out Both the Lumberjacks and Ladyjacks are in unique positions heading into the outdoor season. With their sweep of the SLC Indoor team titles, both teams are now in position to take both the indoor and outdoor team titles.
Going in search of the Trifecta The Lumberjacks are in the very unique position of competing for the collegiate track and field triple crown in the Southland Conference. In November, the `Jacks won their fourth-straight league title, the Lumberjacks followed that up with their first-ever SLC indoor track and field title. In May, the Lumberjacks will be competing for the SLC outdoor title and a sweep of the triple crown. If the Lumberjacks can win the outdoor track and field title, it would be the conference's first triple-crown winner since Lamar accomplished the feat during the 1984-85 academic year.
Up Next ... SFA returns to action Friday Mar. 25 through Saturday Mar. 26, to compete in the LSU Tiger Relays and Multi Events. The meet will be in Baton Rouge, La.
