SFA to Compete at Bayou Classic

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin men's and women's track and field teams are set to compete this weekend at the Rice Bayou Classic, in Houston. More than 1,500 high school and collegiate athletes will compete in the Bayou Classic, whose field includes teams from Harvard, Iowa State and Houston. The university portion of the two-day meet begins Friday evening with the distance events.
The Bayou Classic is SFA's third meet of the outdoor season. So far, the high jumpers have led the way on both sides of the gender line. Ladyjacks Audrey Azu and Meghan Denman are tied for the best height in the Southland Conference after both cleared 5-07 at Sam Houston's York Relays on March 10. Justin Reyes and Ryder Peacock did the same in the men's field at the York Relays. They both cleared 6-08.75, currently the best mark in the SLC.
Lumberjack sprinter Erik Powell has recorded Top 10 marks in all three sprints, and his time of 49.03 in the 400 meters ranks fourth in the conference. Cole Hollingsworth's time of 3:57.33 in the 1,500 meters is fifth in the league, and Scott Reid ranks fifth in the hammer throw, with a mark of 154-05.
Alecia Green's time of 11.74 in the 100-meter dash is second in the conference, as is Stevina Wyatt's 1:02.30 in the 400-meter hurdles. Pole vaulters Kristina Windham and Laura Mikeska rank third and fifth, respectively, in the SLC with marks of 12-05.50 and 11-11.75. Monique Hackney's mark of 19-00.50 in the long jump ranks fourth in the league. Colleen Lonergan is fifth among conference hammer throwers with a mark of 147-08, and Sarah Emerson ranks fifth in the SLC with a throw of 140-03 in the javelin.
Following the Bayou Classic, SFA will be back in action on April 5-8 at the Texas Relays, in Austin, Texas.
