AUSTIN, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin men's track and field team kicked off the 2002 Texas Relays Wednesday with the decathlon. Sophomore decathlete Jonathan Roberson (Mart, Texas) scored 3,609 and is in 11th place after day one of competition at the Texas Relays.

Roberson's best finish in the first day of competition came in the 400-meter dash where he recorded a time of 50.34 seconds to finish seventh. He had an eighth-place finish in the long jump with his mark of 22-1.50. Roberson kicked off the decathlon with a ninth-place finish in the 100-meter dash (11.19). Roberson also recorded an 11th-place finish in the shot put with his toss of 38-2.25. Roberson cleared a height of 6-0.00 to finish 13th in the high jump.

The Texas Relays will continue Thursday with the conclusion of the decathlon, beginning at 11 a.m. The track events are slated to get underway at 3:45 p.m., with the finals of the women's 4X800-meter relay.
