Fourteen SFA Athletes Advance to NCAA Preliminaries

Fourteen Stephen F. Austin men's and women's track and field athletes have qualified for the NCAA Preliminary Rounds announced the NCAA Thursday afternoon. The 14 athletes will be competing in 12 different sports. The NCAA preliminary rounds are slated to begin Thursday, May 23, in Austin, Texas, and will run through Saturday, May 25th. The qualifiers from the two preliminary meets will advance to the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Ore., next month.
The 'Jacks will be sending 11 athletes to compete in nine different events, while the Ladyjacks are sending three athletes to compete in three separate events. The Lumberjack qualifiers include Jon Arthur in shot put, Colton Ross and Cameron Meyer in the pole vault, Jamal Peden in the long jump and triple jump, Nick McCloud in the 110-meter hurdles, Cass Brown-Stewart in the 400 meters, Josh Taylor in the 400-meter hurdles and Adam Saloom in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. In addition to their individual events, Brown-Stewart and Taylor will join Shawn Goff and Torin Crowder in the 4x400-meter relay. Freshman Simba Walker-Williams will serve as the alternate on the men's 1,600-meter relay team.
Athletes must be ranked among the top 48 in their events to advance to the preliminary rounds. SFA will enter the meet with three athletes and the relay currently ranked among the regions top 10. SFA also has another two athletes ranked among the regions top 20. The top 12 individuals from every event will advance to the NCAA Championships.
