Matthews to Compete at NCAAs Wednesday

June 6, 2007

Senior Leah Matthews will begin competition in the long jump at the 2007 NCAA Outdoor Championships Wednesday afternoon. The 2007 outdoor meet will take place at Hornet Stadium in Sacramento, Calif. The women's long jump qualifying round will begin at 5:45 (7:45 p.m. Nacogdoches time) p.m. If Matthews advances to the finals, she will return to the long jump pit Thursday at 4 (6 p.m. Nacogdoches time) p.m.

Matthews is the school record holder in the event. She set the SFA standard at the NCAA Midwest Regional Championships when she finished second overall with a jump of 20-8.00, to earn an automatic berth in the NCAA Championships. Matthews also earned all-region honors for her effort.
