SFA Releases 2008 Track & Field Schedule

NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F. Austin track and field program released its 2008 indoor and outdoor schedule head coach Phil Olson announced Tuesday morning. The 2008 indoor slate will consist of four dates prior to the Southland Conference Indoor Championships, while the outdoor schedule consists of nine meets prior to the conference championships.

SFA opens the 2008 indoor season Friday, Jan. 18 at the Leonard Hilton Invitational in Houston, Texas. It will be one of four dates where SFA will travel down Highway 59 to compete at the Bill Yeoman Fieldhouse on the University of Houston campus. The SFA men and women will also be in Houston to compete at the Houston Invitational (Feb. 1-2), Houston Indoor Classic (Feb. 9) and SLC Indoor Championships (Feb. 22-23). SFA will travel to Fayetteville, Ark., on Friday, Jan. 25 for the Razorback Invitational. The two-day meet marks the only meet outside of Texas prior to the conference meet.

The NCAA Indoor Championships will be Friday, March 14 through Saturday, March 15 in Fayetteville, Ark. The NCAA meet will be hosted by the University of Arkansas.

The outdoor schedule will provide SFA fans ample opportunity to see the purple and white compete, with six dates scheduled within the state of Texas. SFA will begin the outdoor season Friday, Mar.7 through Saturday, Mar. 8, at the York Relays in Huntsville, Texas. The Lumberjacks and Ladyjacks will travel to Natchitoches, La., the following week to compete in the Northwestern Relays. It marks one of three scheduled meets in Natchitoches, during the outdoor season (Northwestern State Invitational - April 12 and the NSU-NCAA Qualifier May 21st).

SFA will remain within the state when they travel to Houston, Texas, to compete in the Rice Bayou Classic (March 28-29). The following week SFA will travel to Austin, Texas, to compete at the prestigious Texas Relays (April 2-5).

The Lumberjacks and Ladyjacks will then spend the next three weeks competing away from Texas, until returning Thursday, April 24, when they travel back to Houston for the Rice Twilight Invitational. The weekend of May 2-3 will see the purple and white back in Houston to participate in the Tom Tellez Invitational.

The SLC Outdoor Championships will by Friday, May 9, through Sunday, May 11, in Huntsville, Texas. The NCAA Midwest Regional Championships will be hosted by Nebraska on the weekend of May 30-31. The NCAA Outdoor Championships will be Wednesday, June 11 through Saturday, June 14 in Des Moines, Iowa.
