SFA Cross Country Earns Academic Honor

Feb. 27, 2008

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack cross country team was named Wednesday to the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team honors list. SFA is one of just 158 women's programs in the nation and one of only two schools in the Southland Conference to be named to the list.

To be eligible for the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic award, teams must maintain a cumulative team grade-point average of 3.00 and post a team score at an NCAA regional meet.

"I'm proud of the girls for their continued academic success and that we are one of only two teams in the Southland Conference to receive this award," SFA head coach Lou Snelling said. "We strive to recruit athletes who desire to be extremely successful academically and athletically. That is why the girls have consistently achieved at a very high academic level."

Snelling's Ladyjacks posted a team GPA of 3.21 and finished 10th at the NCAA South Central Regional Championships in the fall.

The Ladyjacks have earned the USTFCCCA team academic honor in all five years under Snelling.
