Cross Country Team Strikes Out in Houston
Sept. 5, 2000
Members of the Stephen F. Austin men's and women's cross country teams had to stop in the middle of their season opening race last weekend in Houston, due to severe weather in the area.
The meet, hosted by Rice University, had to be postponed due to dangerous lightning conditions.
Runners in the event had already started the race, and had completed approximately two miles, when the race was halted due to lightning in the area.
The team returns to action on September 16, in Austin, at the Texas Invitational.
Both teams will host the Joe Richardson Invitational cross country meet on September 25 at Piney Woods Country Club in Nacogdoches. Teams from Southland Conference schools will participate in the event, which will serve as the pre-conference meet. The Southland Conference Championships will be held over the same course in late October.
