'Jacks Take Series from Texas A&M-Corpus Christi

ROBSTOWN, Texas - - Lance Luetge kept the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders hitless through 8.2 innings as he walked one and gave up two two-out singles in the bottom of the ninth to lead the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks to an 8-0 win Sunday afternoon. Luetge also struck out a career-high 11 batters in SFA's 20th win of the season. The Lumberjacks are 20-18 overall and have an 8-7 Southland Conference mark. TAMUCC is 21-18 on the year and are 7-8 in league play. The win was Luetge's fifth of the year.

In the top of the fifth inning, Kevin Crabtree led off with an infield single to third base. Justin Long sent Crabtree to second on a sac bunt and Crabtree scored on a left field base hit from Chris Smith to give SFA the 1-0 lead.

SFA scored again in the top of the sixth when Steven Hill hit a two-run home run over the left center field wall. In his next at-bat, Hill hit his first grand slam over the left field wall to give the Lumberjacks a 7-0 lead. Jared Pitts followed with a double down the left field line and scored on an error by the Islanders' third baseman, giving SFA an 8-0 advantage.

Hill's home runs were his 14th and 15th of the year, setting a career high for the senior first base man, who is also leading the SLC in homeruns.

At the plate, Hill was 2-for-5 with six RBI and two runs scored. Chris Smith, who was solid defensively for SFA, was 3-for-4 with an RBI.

The Lumberjacks are back in action Tuesday as they travel to Dallas for a mid-week game against Dallas Baptist. The game is scheduled for a 6:30 p.m. start.
