Lumberjacks Lose Third Straight
May 5, 2007 SAN MARCOS, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks suffered their third straight loss Saturday afternoon as Texas State took an 8-5 win from SFA at Bobcat Field. Southland Conference home run leader Steven Hill knocked his 21st home run out of the park while Jared Pitts sent his 11th home run of the year over the right field wall. The loss sent the Lumberjacks overall record to 25-23 and their SLC mark to 12-11. The Bobcats are now 32-16 overall and 17-6 in league play. With two outs in the top of the first, Hill hit a solo shot to give SFA their only lead of the game, 1-0. But the Bobcats struck in the bottom of the first and took advantage of a Jeff Brewer error and two wild pitches from Jared Schrom to go up, 4-1. SFA added one more in the top of the second and put two more up in the top of the sixth, but it wasn't enough as the Bobcats added three runs in the same time frame, to go up 7-2. Pitts' home run came in the top of the ninth, but the Bobcats had added one more the inning before for the 8-5 final score. Schrom suffered his third loss of the season to move his record to 3-3. He gave up six runs off four hits. He struck out three. Erich Lehmann who pitched 4.2 innings of relief, struck out four. From the plate, Zach Gardner, Steven Hill and Jeff Brewer each had two hits. Gardner also had two RBI. The Lumberjacks will face the Bobcats in the final game of the series Sunday at 1 p.m. from Bobcat Field. -SFA- |
