HUNTSVILLE, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack baseball team scored eight runs in the second inning and never looked back, knocking off Sam Houston State, 13-5, for the second consecutive night. The 'Jacks improve to 14-41 on the season and 6-23 in Southland Conference play. The loss drops SHSU to 23-30 on the season and 12-17 in league play, and eliminates the Kats from the postseason tournament.

After giving up a run in the first inning and one in the second, SFA battled back to score eight runs on five hits in the third inning. The Lumberjacks were aided by two walks and to hit batters in the inning. The Bearkats tried to answer back in the fourth scoring three runs, but that would be as close as SHSU would get.

Junior Brian Steinocher pitched his third complete game to go to 3-10 on the season. Steinocher gave up eight hits and five runs but only three were earned. Steinocher struck out six batters and became the school's all-time single-season leader in strike outs (75).

The SFA offense was led by junior Chase Sadler who finished the night 3-for-5 with a run and an RBI. Sophomore Buck Britton, junior Steven Hill and freshman Kevin Croft each finished the game with two hits. Croft entered the inning in the seventh as a pinch hitter and finished the night 2-for-2 with a home run and five RBI.

The 'Jacks close out the season Saturday against Sam Houston State. The game is slated to begin at 2 p.m. from the SHSU Baseball Complex.
