Feb. 26, 2007
FRISCO, Texas - Steven Hill was named the Aeropostale Southland Conference Hitter of the Week for his performance during the week of Feb. 19-Feb. 26. It was the first time this season that a Stephen F. Austin ballplayer has been given the award.
In five games played last week, Hill batted .429, going 9-for-21 with seven runs scored and 15 RBI. He collected two doubles, a triple and three home runs. He was walked only once and struck out once. He was also 5-for-5 in stolen bases.
The Houston native led SFA in its three-game sweep of the Youngstown State Penguins over the weekend with a .500 batting average (6-12). Five of his 10 RBI came in Sunday's 9-5 win, with all his runs being driven in on his two home runs. He also hit a home run on Saturday as part of the Lumberjacks' four home run show.
For the season, Hill is batting .322 and is leading the team with 19 hits, six doubles and 20 RBI. He is second on the team with 11 runs scored and is tied for the most home runs this season with four.
Hill, who is currently on a five-game hitting streak, will look to help SFA extend its three-game winning streak Friday as the 'Jacks face Texas-San Antonio in non-conference action. The game will be played in Edinburg, Texas, at the Edinburg Baseball Stadium at 2 p.m.
