SFA Hits Road To Face Cardinals

March 19, 2008

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - With three SLC games already in the books for 2008, the Lumberjack baseball team is set to start conference series No. 2 this weekend when it travels to Lamar for a three-game set with the Cardinals beginning Thursday at 6:30 p.m.

Thursday's game will be aired on Q107.7 locally, or on www.q1077.com. The remainder of the games for the season will be aired on KSFA 860AM locally, or online at www.ksfa860.com. SFA Assistant Director of Media Relations Ben Rikard will be on the call for the play-by-play Gametracker will also be available at www.sfajacks.com or at www.lamarcardinals.com.

The `Jacks have put together a 9-8 overall record so far this year, and is now 1-2 in Southland Conference play after taking the series finale on Sunday against Southeastern Louisiana.

SFA's offense struggled against SELA - who entered with an SLC-best 2.90 team ERA - but finally got things rolling in the third game when they plated 11 runs to break into the win column. Lance Luetge went 7.1 innings in that game for his team-leading third win, and kept his ERA at an impressive 1.69 mark through five starts.

The `Jacks still hold a team .305 batting average, but they are starting to find some real success on the base paths as well. SFA has been successful in 24 of its last 25 stolen base attempts, including a perfectly executed double steal on Sunday that had Kai Kirby take home plate. Kirby and Jeff Brewer currently are tied for second in the SLC with nine steals apiece, while Brewer has yet to be caught.

Lamar enters with a 10-7 overall record, but has struggled a bit lately in dropping three of its last five games. The Cardinals are 2-1 in conference after taking two of three against UT-Arlington in the conference opener; however, the win the Mavs picked up was a 15-4 win in only seven innings. Oddly enough, it came against Cards' ace Brian Sisk who gave up 11 runs in only two innings. He is scheduled to get the ball for LU on Friday against SFA.

The entire broadcast schedule for the 2008 season is included. Check back with www.sfajacks.com for any changes or additions.
