Two 'Jacks Named Academic All-SLC
June 20, 2012
FRISCO, Texas - Seniors Jarid Scarafiotti and Bobby Loveless were each named to the Southland Conference all-Academic teams the league announced on Wednesday, with Scarafiotti being named to the first team and Loveless to the second team.
It is the third consecutive year Scarafiotti has been named to the league's top academic list and is still just one of two Lumberjacks to ever be named to the academic all-SLC first team. It is the first time Loveless has earned an academic honor.
Student-athletes across the league are not eligible for selection to the team unless they are at least a sophomore in eligibility and have spent at least one full year on a Southland Conference roster.
Scarafiotti was the third team all-SLC catcher as a senior, hitting .238 with four home runs and 29 RBI, but managed to close out his SFA career as the all-time RBI leader while finishing in the top 10 all-time at SFA in hits, walks, doubles and home runs.
The senior from Shreveport, La., also held his own in the classroom, sporting a 3.63 GPA in mathematics.
Loveless finished out the year as the hottest Lumberjack at the plate, hitting safely in each of his final 16 games and slugging 1.056 in five games at the Southland Conference Tournament on his way to being named to the all-tournament team. For the season he finished with a .272 average, along with nine home runs and a team-best 39 RBI to go with 10 doubles and team-high two triples.
He also managed to maintain a solid 3.13 GPA as in kinesiology.
