Cowboys Take Down SFA

LAKE CHARLES, La. - The McNeese State Cowboys got a career high 22 points from Dontae Cannon and moved into a tie for second place in the Southland Conference with a 66-56 win over Stephen F. Austin on Sunday afternoon at the Lake Charles Civic Center.
The `Jacks (12-10, 6-3 SLC) trailed just 26-21 at the half behind 13 points from Antonio Bostic, but but Bostic was held scoreless in the second half and the Cowboys (11-10, 7-2 SLC) became just the fourth team this season to outrebound SFA and turned 13 Lumberjack turnovers into 23 points while never trailing for the final 36 minutes of the game.
McNeese State lived at the free throw line, hitting 22 of 30 while the `Jacks allowed a season-high 66 points for just the fourth time this season. The `Jacks trailed by as much as 17 points with less than two minutes to play before a final spurt cut the final deficit to just 10. Bostic led SFA with 13 points, while Jereal Scott, Taylor Smith and Hal Bateman all finished with 10 points apiece.
The Cowboys took care of the basketball for the majority of the afternoon with just 10 turnovers, of which the `Jacks were only able to convert into four points.
The `Jacks can now look forward to a stretch of five of its next six games at home, beginning Wednesday night against Nicholls.
