'Jacks Move to 13-13 With 73-62 Win Over UTSA
Feb. 26, 2002
F Ransom White, the only senior on the Lumberjack basketball team (13-13, 10-9) this season, put his teammates on his back and carried them to their 13th win overall, and tenth victory in Southland Conference action with a 73-62 win over UT-San Antonio (18-8, 13-6). White scored 16-points and pulled down a game high 13-rebounds to lead the 'Jacks in both categories. The win puts SFA within distance of a berth in the Southland Conference postseason tournament with just one game remaining in the regular season. With a Northwestern State loss in either of its last two games, SFA is assured of a spot in the tourney. They can also grab a spot in the post season field with a win Saturday over regular season champion, McNeese State, in Lake Charles. The 'Jacks jumped out to an early 6-0 lead over the Roadrunners in the opening minutes of the game and never trailed in picking up the win. The 'Jacks led by a 40-23 score at halftime and seemed to be in control for most of the second half. SFA stuttered down the stretch however as five straight turnovers inside the final 3:00 of play allowed UTSA to trim what had been a 12-point lead to only four with 1:49 remaining. SFA answered by going 7-11 at the free throw line in the final 1:46 to build the lead back to the winning margin. F Percy Green, the Southland Conference Player of the Week this week, added 15-points for the 'Jacks, while G Skip Jackson also added 14, and F Stevin Ozier also chipped in 10 points on the night.
