The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks fell to 1-2 in Southland Conference action Thursday night as they dropped a 58-55 decision to the Colonels of Nicholls State in front of 1,213 fans in the William R. Johnson Coliseum.

The 'Jacks trailed 27-22 at the half, but fought back to tie the game at 45-45 with 7:19 remaining. Chris Bacon made a free throw to put Nihcolls State up by one, then Beau O'Quin nailed a three pointer that secured the lead for the Colonels.

With less than thirty seconds remaining and the 'Jacks trailing by five, G Scott Spradlin made a three pointer and was fouled. He converted the four point play to cut the Nicholls State lead to only one, 56-55. The Colonels Earnest Porter converted on a pair of free throws with :22 seconds left to seal the win for Nicholls State.

Ron Banks led the Lumberjacks with 15 points and 8 rebounds. Spradlin added 14 for SFA.

The 'Jacks return to action Saturday afternoon at 2:00 when they host Southeastern Louisiana in the Coliseum.
