SFA Picks Up Win Over Houston Baptist, 87-47

NACOGDOCHES, Texas -- Four Lumberjacks scored in double figures, led by Marcus Clark's 15 points as SFA moved to 6-5 on the year with an 87-47 win over Houston Baptist Monday night.
SFA stepped up the defensive pressure in the second half and held Houston Baptist to only 13 second half points in cruising to the win. HBU tied the score at 34-34 on a tip-in by Ben McCain at the buzzer as the first half ended, but were blitzed in the opening minutes of the second half as the 'Jacks opened the period on a 19-6 run to break open the game.
Clark led SFA in scoring for the second straight game and also added six assists. Anthony Paez and Leonard Brown also added 13 points each and Josh Porter chipped in 10 for SFA. Chris Miller led the Huskies with 13 points and also led HBU in rebounding with seven boards. Hank Rivers pulled down 11 rebounds to lead the Lumberjacks as SFA won the battle of the boards, 41-28.
The Lumberjacks forced a season high 28 HBU turnovers while committing only 11 on the night. Taylor Moore was solid in 30 minutes of play with seven points and six rebounds and also dished out a career high six assists from the post.
The Lumberjacks close out a four game homestand with Northwestern State Thursday night in the Southland Conference opener for both teams.
