Green Named SLC Player of the Week
Feb. 26, 2002 PLANO, Texas -- After helping his team to a 2-0 record which keeps Stephen F. Austin alive in the postseason hunt, Percy Green has been named Southland Conference men's basketball player of the week. Following is a look at Green's week and others named to the weekly honor roll. Player of the Week PERCY GREEN * Stephen F. Austin * Jr. * F * 6-7 * Oklahoma City, Okla. Green averaged 15.0 points in two Stephen F. Austin wins last week to go along with 5.5 rebounds per game. He scored 10 points and added five rebounds in a 66-58 win over Northwestern State, then scored a game-high 20 points and added six rebounds against Louisiana-Monroe in a 52-51 SFA win to keep the Lumberjacks hopes of a postseason tournament berth alive. For the week, Green was 13-of-25 (.520) from the field, and 4-of-7 (.571) at the free throw line and also added one assist and one steal. Green scored 15 points in the second half of the win over ULM as SFA overcame a six-point halftime deficit and beat the Indians on Skip Jackson's 12-footer at the buzzer. Honor Roll Clay Click *Southwest Texas Click helped SWT to two more road wins and six wins in a row overall with victories at Southeastern Louisiana and Nicholls State. He scored 14 points in each of the games, shooting 9-of-17 in the two games, including 8-of-15 from beyond the arc. Click made 3-of-3 free throws on the week, putting him first in the Southland at 87.5 percent. Jason Coleman * McNeese State Coleman came off the bench for team-high 21 points in a win over Sam Houston State that guarantees the Cowboys a share of the league title. He made 7-of-13 shots, including 4-of-7 from 3-point range. He also had four rebounds and three assists. During a Thursday night win over Lamar, Coleman had four points. Mike Hicks * Texas-Arlington Hicks averaged 15.5 points per game in two contests as Texas-Arlington went 0-2 on the week. He scored 17 and grabbed four rebounds versus Louisiana-Monroe and scored 14 points with five rebounds against Northwestern State. McEverett Powers * Texas-San Antonio Powers averaged 12.5 points and 9.0 rebounds last week as Texas-San Antonio went 2-0 to climb back into second place. He opened with 16 points and six rebounds to go along with an assist and a steal at Nicholls State. Saturday, he had nine points and 12 rebounds at Southeastern Louisiana.
