Bostic, Scott Named To All-Southland Conference Teams
March 6, 2012
KATY, Texas - Stephen F. Austin's Antonio Bostic and Jereal Scott have each been named to the all-Southland Conference teams, announced Tuesday by league officials. Bostic, a junior guard, was a first team all-Southland selection, while Scott, a senior post, earned second-team honors.
The pair of honors continues a streak of 12 consecutive seasons for SFA to place at least one player on the all-conference squads. Bostic's selection marks the second consecutive season for the `Jacks to have a player named to the first team after Scott earned that honor in 2011.
Bostic posted career highs by averaging 11.5 points, 3.9 rebound and 2.8 assists in the regular season for SFA. He has led the `Jacks in scoring in a dozen of its 30 games on the year, including nine times in league play alone. In addition, he has also proven to be an iron man for Danny Kaspar's squad, ranking third in the league with 34.1 minutes played per game and having played at least 40 minutes in six of his last eight games. He picked up his first double-double with 11 points and 10 assists in SFA's Bracket Busters win over High Point and set a career high with 22 points at San Diego early in the year. He's managed to close out the regular season on a high note, hitting for at least 17 points in three of his last four games .
Scott, meanwhile, continued to show why he is looked at as one of the best big men in the Southland this season. After earning first team all-Southland honors as a junior in 2011, Scott has averaged 12.7 points and 5.4 rebounds per game as a senior in 2012. He became the eight Lumberjack in Division I history to eclipse the 1,000-point mark for his career earlier this year, and moved into fifth in Division I scoring at SFA with a 12-point showing in the regular season finale vs Northwestern State on Saturday. He had a pair of double-doubles on the season, including a 27-point, 11-rebound showing in a blowout win over Texas State and also tied a career high with 30 points in an early-season win over Wiley.
The Lumberjacks shoot for their 20th win of the season on Wednesday at noon vs Sam Houston State in the first round of the Southland Conference Tournament. SFA enters the tournament as the No. 2 seed while the Bearkats enter as the No. 7 seed. The winner advances to take on the winner of No. 3 Lamar and No. 6 Northwestern State.
