June 24, 2013
NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Now that the school year is over, and before we begin the 2013-14 academic year, SFA athletics wanted to take a look back at the Top 25 Moments from the 2012-13 season.
The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack basketball team flexed its defensive muscle against McNeese State in Lake Charles to pick up a 59-39 victory to close out the month of January. The Lumberjack defense set the tone early holding McNeese State to only four first-half field goals (15.4 percent) in a nine-point first half.
The 39-point outing marked the Cowboys' lowest point total in the shot clock era, and was also the lowest point total for an SFA opponent since 2009. McNeese State was held to a 3-of-17 performance from beyond the arc, and hit only 24.5 percent from the field.
The 2013 Southland Conference Player of the Year, Taylor Smith, became the school's all-time leading shot blocker - in less than two seasons - with his six rejections against the Cowboys. Smith's six blocks on the night moved him past former league player of the year Matt Kingsley. Smith also finished the game by setting a new career high with 18 rebounds.
