NACOGDOCHES, Texas - When the Stephen F. Austin men's basketball team takes the floor this season, Lumberjack fans might notice a few new faces in uniform -- nine, to be exact. The nine newcomers for 2007-08 tie two previous years for the most SFA rookies to start a season under eighth-year head coach Danny Kaspar. The class includes five prep recruits and four collegiate transfers. Following is the first in a series of question-and-answer sessions that will help SFA fans get to know the newest Lumberjacks. Today's featured 'Jack is junior transfer Nick Shaw.

Shaw is a 6-6, 215-pound power forward from Arlington, Texas. He transferred to Stephen F. Austin following a solid two-year junior college career -- first at Navarro College, then at Collin County Community College. As a sophomore at Collin County last year, Shaw helped lead the team to a third-place finish in the North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference. He earned all-conference honors after averaging 11.6 points and 6.9 rebounds per game. Shaw played his high school basketball at Bowie High in Arlington, where he was a two-year starter and three-year letterman on the hardwood.

Kaspar calls Shaw a "very tough, hard-working" player with "good all-around skills and an excellent outside shot." The coach added that Shaw has already emerged as a dependable team leader during preseason workouts.

Shaw is majoring in general business at SFA.

Below are Shaw's responses to the Lumberjack newcomer survey:
