'Jacks Move To 2-0 With Overtime Win Over NAU
Sept. 11, 2004
NACOGDOCHES, Texas -- Derek Farmer rushed for 144 yards and two touchdowns and Zeke Dixon came off the bench to compete seven of 14 passes for 89 yards and a touchdown to lead 16th raanked Stephen F. Austin to a 24-17 overtime win over 13th ranked Northern Arizona Saturday night.
The win moves SFA to 2-0 on the year, while Northern Arizona falls to 0-2. The 'Jacks remain perfect in overtime games winning for the fifth time in five games. SFA's last overtime game was a 44-37 win over Jacksonville State in 2001.
Farmer helped the 'Jacks control the ball with his second straight 100-yard rushing game. Cliff Edwards had back-to-back 100-yard rushing games a year ago. Farmer wore down the NAU defense as he rolled up 144 yards on 25 carries and scored twice. His 12-yarder in overtime sealed the deal for the 'Jacks, putting SFA 24-17.
NAU then took over and on third and nine at the 24-yard line, QB Jason Murietta threw into the end zone and appeared to complete the pass to Raufeem Jackson before Krys Williams got a hand in and broke up the play. Murietta's fourth down pass fell incomplete to give SFA the win.
SFA had 314 yards of total offense on the night while holding Northern Arizona to 223 yards on 69 plays. NAU rushed 30 times for 74 yards.
SFA travels to Northern Iowa next week.
