HUNTSVILLE, Texas (AP) - Ryan Rossner kicked a 54-yard field goal with one second left Thursday night to give Stephen F. Austin a 34-31 victory over Sam Houston State.

The Lumberjacks (4-3, 1-0 Southland) had tied the game two minutes earlier on an 11-yard run by Cliff Edwards on the first play after Ryan Smith blocked a Sam Houston State punt.

Michael Williams threw for 245 yards and one touchdown and Edwards ran for 104 yards and two TDs for Stephen F. Austin. Williams hit Chance Dennis on a 16-yard pass in the third quarter. Edwards' other touchdown came on a 23-yard run in the second quarter.

Jason Godfrey rushed 23 times for 125 yards and one touchdown for Sam Houston State (1-5, 0-1).

Stevie Smith gave Sam Houston an early 7-0 lead one a fourth-and-goal 1-yard run after a fumble recovery.

Sam Houston State took a 14-0 lead before Stephen F. Austin could score on a field goal by Rossner with 39 seconds left in the first.
