SFA Has 63 Athletes Named To SLC Commissioner's Honor Roll

Jan. 10, 2008

FRISCO, Texas - The Southland Conference announced on Thursday that 63 SFA student-athletes have been named to the Commissioner's Fall Academic Honor Roll.

Out of 12 conference schools, SFA placed the third most students on the honor roll, and the most of any of the school's in Texas.

Presented by CapitalOne Bank, the honor roll recognizes student-athletes who competed in league championship sports during the fall semester and maintained a 3.0 semester grade point average while enrolled in a minimum of 12 semester hours.

Football led the way with 28 selections that included academic All-SLC selections Tim Knicky,Taylor Cobb, Cory Long and Bry Roby. Both Cobb and Knicky also earned All-SLC selections for their on-the-field performances in 2007.

After placing 16 runners on the squad in the Fall of 2006, the cross country team repeated that feat in 2007. Of those 16, nine are underclassmen, including seven freshmen.

After claiming the SLC crown in 2007, the Ladyjack soccer team landed 11 on the honor roll. Southland Conference Tournament MVP Erika Palmacci found her name on the list alongside junior Jessica Cotton who was selected as a CoSIDA ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District selection this season. Overall, five of the seven Ladyjacks selected to the All-SLC honors were named to the list.

Each of the Ladyjack volleyball team's three first team all-conference selections - Traci Rohde, Lauren Railey and JJ Jones - were named on the list after helping lead SFA to its fourth consecutive SLC crown.
