'Jacks Complete First Workout In Pads
March 22, 2001
The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks completed their first practice in full pads Thursday afternoon with what Mike Santiago described as "a great deal of enthusiasm". The 'Jacks will wrap up the first week of spring workouts Friday, with another full contact practice starting t 3:00 p.m.
"I was really pleased with Thursday's practice. Everyone is excited on the first day of pads, if we have that same level of excitement and enthusiasm on the last day in pads, then we'll have had a good spring," said Santiago.
Both sides of the ball showed big play potential Thursday afternoon, with defensive back Jonathan Daniels picking off a pass and scoring for the defense, while RB Thomas Williams broke off two long touchdown runs for the offensive unit.
"I saw a lot of good things on both sides of the ball. The offensive unit made some big plays, but unfortunately, the defensive unit gave them those plays. The main thing was, I saw a lot of intensity and enthusiasm on the practice field this afternoon," said Santiago.
The Lumberjacks wrap up the first week of spring practice Friday, then return Monday afternoon at 3:00 p.m., to start week two. The first scrimmage of the spring is set to take place one week from Friday at 7:00 p.m.
