'Jacks Prepare for Final Scrimmage

April 17, 2008

NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack football team will step on the football Thursday afternoon for one of only three remaining workouts of the 2008 spring. The 'Jacks will hold one final practice Friday before playing its annual spring game Saturday.

The Lumberjack offense will look to neutralize an opportunistic defensive unit. The defense has forced 11 turnovers (five fumbles and six interceptions) during the two previous scrimmages. SFA's defense has also recorded 21 sacks during the first two scrimmages.

Garrison, Texas, sophomore-to-be Jabara Williams has settled into the idea of not having to play on both sides of the ball, and is giving new defensive coordinator, David Gibbs, reason to smile. Williams has recorded 20 tackles during the two scrimmages, and is among the team leaders with five sacks. He has also picked off two passes, and forced a fumble during the spring.

Another key area for SFA is trying to lockdown its next quarterback, and sophomore-to-be Jeremy Moses seems to be the leader heading into the scrimmage. Moses has completed 59-of-93 (63.4 percent) passes for 582 yards, and five touchdowns, with only two interceptions. Redshirt freshman Garrett Milton has also looked good at times as the signal caller.

Saturday's scrimmage is slated to begin at 6 p.m. from Homer Bryce Stadium. Admission to the scrimmage is free.
