FOX Sports To Televise Three SFA Football Games
May 6, 2003 NACOGDOCHES, Texas -- Stephen F. Austin athletic director Steve McCarty has announced that at least three of the 'Jacks regular season football games will be televised during the 2003 season. Included in that trio are two non-conference games and a Southland Conference game, with Sam Houston, in mid-October. All three television games will be played on Thursday night. SFA is set to open the home portion of its schedule against Northern Iowa, of the Gateway Conference, on Sept. 18 with the game being televised on FOX Sports Southwest, Fox Sports Midwest and Fox Sports Chicago. The game will also mark the unveiling of SFA's new press box and luxury suites located on the west side of the stadium. A tentative game time for the home opener is set for 6:30 p.m. Construction on a renovated press box that will include six luxury boxes on the bottom floor of the facility began immediately following the completion of the 2002 season and is expected to be finished Sept. 1. The 'Jacks will also appear on the Sunshine Network throughout the state of Florida and Fox Sports Southwest in Texas, on Oct. 9, as they travel to Miami, Fla. to take on Florida International. Game time for the 'Jacks first ever venture to Miami is set for 6:00 p.m. Central. The Southland Conference meeting between SFA and Sam Houston has also been moved from its originally scheduled Saturday, Oct. 18 date to Thursday, Oct. 16, and will be broadcast on Fox Sports Southwest. Two years ago the teams met on Fox Sports and played before one of the largest ever TV audiences for a Southland Conference broadcast. Game time for the Oct. 16 meeting between the two rivals in set for 7:00 p.m. "This is a great opportunity for us to gain more exposure for our program and for the university," said McCarty. "Not only will we have Stephen F. Austin football broadcast into millions of homes through these broadcasts, but it will give our student-athletes a great opportunity to compete on a national stage." SFA is set to open the season Sept. 6 against UL-Monroe, in Monroe, La. |
