SFA Football Recruits Play in All-Star Game
June 23, 2003 Three 2003 signees with the Lumberjack football program took part in two high school all-star football games this past weekend. Two incoming student-athletes took part in the Bayou Bowl, a match-up of teams from Texas and Louisiana, and another played in the annual Oil Bowl, held in Wichita Falls. Texas won the inaugural Bayou Bowl on a last minute field goal with future Lumberjack Jonathan Denman winning Defensive MVP honors for the game. Denman, a 6-1, 190 pound defensive back from Kempner High School in Missouri City, was a two-time all-district player at Kempner where he was also voted the DB Player of the Year in 2002. Martin Thompson, Jr. of Aldine Eisenhower, also participated in the Bayou Bowl. Cole Parks, an offensive lineman from Stephenville, also played in the annual Oil Bowl held in Wichita Falls over the weekend. All-star teams from Texas and Oklahoma annually compete in that event, with Oklahoma winning this year. |
