'Jacks' Hit the Field for First Preseason Workout

Aug. 4, 2008

NACOGDOCHES - After spending the early part of the day in team meetings, the 2008 version of the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks stepped onto the practice field for first time in preseason camp. The practice was the first of 29 scheduled workouts prior to the season opener against Langston Saturday, Aug. 30.

The first of five conditioning workouts ended with sophomore quarterback Jeremy Moses, and the offense, squaring off against the Lumberjack defense. Senior receiver Dominique Edison recorded one of the biggest highlights of the day when he made a one-handed grab, and was able to stay in bounds, 40 yards down field.

Monday's practice is the only evening workout until Saturday when the 'Jacks will take to the field for their first two-a-day session. The 'Jacks' next four workouts will be morning practices. SFA returns to the practice field Tuesday for an 8 a.m. session.

Quick Hits: •The Lumberjacks kick off the season Saturday, Aug. 30, against Langston. The game against the Lions is slated to begin at 6 p.m. from Homer Bryce Stadium.

•The Lumberjacks return only 35 letterwinners from the 2007 season, and one of the smallest senior classes in the nation. SFA has only five seniors on its roster, including offensive line transfer Cameron Schacht.

•The Annual `Meet the 'Jacks' is slated for Thursday, Aug. 21, in the Baker Pattillo Student Center Grand Ballroom. The event is slated to begin at 6:30 p.m., and tickets are $10.
