'Jacks Receive Consideration from Sports Network Poll
Aug 13, 2013
One thing is for certain heading into the 2013 football season and that is the pollsters don't quite know what to make of the current Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack football team. The Lumberjacks have been slotted anywhere from 27th to 44th in the 2013 preseason polls.
The 'Jacks received 17 points in the Sports Network poll released Tuesday afternoon. SFA is one of six Southland Conference schools receiving votes in the poll, including two teams ranked among the top 10.
SFA enters the season with six players named to the preseason All-Southland team, including three first-team selections. The first-teamers are running back Gus Johnson, receiver D.J. Ward and defensive end Darren Robinson.
The 'Jacks also return the services of senior quarterback Brady Attaway. The 6-1, 215-pound Whitehouse native enters his final year of eligibility on pace to become the school's second all-time leading passer behind only Jeremy Moses. Attaway has accomplished all of this despite having started only two seasons.
The Lumberjacks will kick off the 2013 regular season with consecutive games on the road, beginning Saturday Aug. 31st at Weber State. Following a trip to Texas Tech, the Lumberjacks open the home schedule Saturday Sept. 14, against McMurry.
