`Jacks Prepare for Saturday Scrimmage
Aug. 19, 2005
NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack football team closed out practice Friday making their final preparations for Saturday's scrimmage at Homer Bryce Stadium. First-year head coach Robert McFarland is expecting to see some positives from his football team in the scrimmage.
"I want a really good scrimmage in game-type situations with a Southland Conference officiating crew," said McFarland. "I want to see how our players will compete and make decisions without our coaches on the field."
The coaching staff is looking to run between 70-75 plays in the scrimmage. It could go a long way in helping the staff determine some starting spots on the team that are still up for grabs.
"We still have some positions that are very tight, in terms of starting roles," said McFarland. "We hope to be able to put together a solid depth chart for the Henderson State game following this scrimmage."
The scrimmage is set to begin at approximately 8:30 a.m., from Homer Bryce Stadium. The scrimmage is free and open to the public.
