SFA To Offer Tailgate Permits For Select Lots In '13
Aug 19, 2013
NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Pregame tailgate activities for Lumberjack fans will get a little easier thanks to the SFA Athletic Department offering tailgate permits for select lots starting this season.
Under the new plan, fans will be able to park and set up their tailgate venues in the area adjacent to Alumni Corner at the intersection of Raguet and Hayter Streets. A limited number of "tailgate" permits for this lot will be available on a first-come, first-served basis and will be valid for the season, according to John Branch, Assistant Athletic Director.
"When we moved tailgate from the commuter lot to the stadium in 2011 we knew it would take a couple of seasons to see how things went and make adjustments," Branch said. "We found that many fans who wanted to tailgate couldn't due to the old game day parking configuration we had in place."
Branch said fans are still encouraged to set up their tailgate in grassy areas and under trees where temperatures can be more comfortable and the area is cleaner than a parking lot.
"Under the trees and on the grass is still a pretty common way to tailgate as seen on other college campuses," Branch said. "The challenge we faced is people who don't tailgate all day were left out because we shut the lots down four hours prior to kick-off. Furthermore, people who managed to unload would have no place to park their car. We've changed that."
All tailgate areas open at 8 a.m. on game days, regardless of the time the game is scheduled and space is claimed on a first-come, first served basis.
