    NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack football team returned to its two-a-day practice routine Monday after taking Sunday off. The `Jacks hit the practice field at 9 a.m., and returned to the field Monday night for a 7:30 workout. The coaching staff is looking to make those final preparations as the team heads into its final 10 days of practice before the season-opener against Henderson State on Thursday Sept. 1.The Stephen F.     The `Jacks scrimmage went along way in helping the coaching staff nail down the starters in the defensive front. SFA head coach Robert McFarland has been pleased with the defensive line throughout fall camp.

    "I was very pleased with the conditioning of the defensive line coming into fall camp," said McFarland. "Their conditioning was evident from the very first day of practice. The defensive line has been very active making plays. We may be short in numbers but we have been putting up some impressive stats during practice. After the scrimmage I felt like were able to set our starters in the defensive front. We plan to rotate our defensive lineman throughout the course of a game to keep them fresh and active."

    Notes: The annual `Meet the Jacks' will take place Tuesday at 6 p.m., in the University Center's Grand Ballroom. Tickets for the event are $10 and can be purchased from any Fredonia Rotary Club member or by calling Gary Russell at (936) 560-4681.

    The `Jacks kick-off the season Thursday Sept. 1 against Henderson State. The game against the Reddies is slated to begin at 7 p.m., from Homer Bryce Stadium.
