Aug. 22, 2006
NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack football team traded in their helmets and pads for shirts and ties Tuesday night for the annual `Meet the 'Jacks' which was held at the Fredonia Hotel. The `Meet the 'Jacks' event is held every year to introduce the Lumberjack football players and coaches to the Nacogdoches community.
After interim University President Dr. Baker Pattillo received a huge ovation from the more than 700 fans in attendance, SFA head coach Robert McFarland introduced his staff and 90-man roster. Following the event players were available for autographs.
SFA Director of Athletics Robert Hill also honored the Ladyjack and Lumberjack teams that won Southland Conference Championships during the 2005 fall semester. The list of champions included Ladyjack soccer, Lumberjack cross country and Ladyjack volleyball. All three sports have been picked to defend their titles in 2006.
The Lumberjacks practice schedule has been changed for Wednesday. The 'Jacks were originally scheduled to hit the field at 8:15 a.m., but the practice has been moved back to 2:30 p.m. All practices are free and open to the public.
