NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack football team took a break from the sweltering east Texas heat to play the role of host Thursday afternoon. The Lumberjack players treated the SFA Marching Band, Twirl-O-Jacks, cheerleaders and pom squad to a barbecue lunch to say thanks for their support and hard work throughout the season.

Approximately 25 players, along with members of the SFA coaching staff, were on hand to serve as waiters for the lunch. The Lumberjack Marching Band consists of more than 200 students, all of whom enjoyed the meal in a climate-controlled tent.

Interim University President Dr. Baker Pattillo took part in the festivities, along with Board of Regents Chair Valerie Ertz, SFA Director of Athletics Robert Hill and Director of the Lumberjack Marching Band David Campo.

Notes: The SFA football team will participate in the 'Jacks Classic Thursday evening at Homer Bryce Stadium beginning at 5 p.m. The 'Jacks Classic is a scripted scrimmage designed to walk the team through the pregame protocol of an actual game day.

SFA kicks off the 2006 season Thursday Aug. 31, in Tulsa, Okla., against the Golden Hurricane. The game is scheduled for a 6 p.m. kickoff from Skelly Stadium.
