NACOGDOCHES, Texas-- The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack football team went through a sharp scrimmage Wednesday night with the offense looking much sharper than it did Saturday night. The team split into purple and white squads with the purple being made up by the first and second units. The first team offensive unit behind All-Southland Conference quarterback Michael Williams scored on its first possession and looked sharp in a limited number of snaps. Running back Derek Farmer did not participate in the scrimmage and freshman Louie Runnels worked with the first unit piling up 38 yards and two touchdowns on seven carries. Williams finished the night completing six of nine passes for 74 yards and a touchdown. Danny Southall and Zeke Dixon worked with both teams in the scrimmage with Southall having a good night. The Hitchcock freshman completed five of 13 passes for 136 yards and a touchdown. He connected with freshman Dominique Edison for an 88-yard scoring strike early in the scrimmage. Edison finished with two catches for 108 yards and a score. Tight end Matt Bodley also hauled in three catches for 65 yards and a touchdown. Dixon was 4-9 for 87 yards with the two interceptions, but also threw two touchdowns in the brief workout. The first team defense looked sharp for the most part, but was victimized by the long scoring play. The defense did pick off two Zeke Dixon passes, one following a batted ball at the line of scrimmage. Jeremy Davis made a diving catch of the deflected pass for the turnover. Roderick Palmer picked up the other interception for the defense. The white offense was held to only 11 yards on the ground on 12 carries. SFA closes fall camp with the scrimmage and now begins preparation for the season opener against Henderson State, Sept. 2. ™
