SFA Football Set to Open at Tulsa
Aug. 30, 2006 NACOGDOCHES - With classes under way and fall camp coming to a close, the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack football team is set to open the 2006 season Thursday night at Tulsa. The game against the Golden Hurricane is slated for a 6 p.m. kick at Skelly Stadium. The `Jacks enter the season looking to rebound from a 5-6 campaign in 2005. SFA enters the season with quite a bit of talent, led by preseason All-America selection Keldrick Holman. The Lumberjacks also sport first-team preseason All-Southland Conference selections Danny Southall and Louie Runnels. Southall led the league in pass efficiency as a sophomore after completing 50-of-85 (.588) passes for 704 yards and five touchdowns. He also carried the ball 35 times for 136 yards and a score. Runnels came on at the end of the 2005 season to become one of the top backs in the SLC, finishing among the league's top five in rush yards per game. The Lumberjacks game against the Golden Hurricane is one of two games against teams at the NCAA Division I level this year. SFA will be in Tucson, Ariz, to take on the Arizona Wildcats on Saturday, Sept. 16. -SFA- |
